The Nature Lover
Kenya has so much to offer in so many different ways. This country is very diverse, there's something for everyone. Safari, beaches, climbing, hiking, adrenaline activities, desert, highlands, mountains, volcano craters, lakes... All there! This is my favorite spot on my page, so go check it out!
And, why do I Kenya?
Why? Simple! Life here is colorful, adventurous, exciting, sometimes tough, hopeful, inspiring, and full of surprises, with lots of moments of challenges, but more moments of laughter and happiness, a lot of friendliness, and people talk to you all the time! I wasn't used to the directness of people but I started liking it, no matter if compliment or comment. I went through many challenges and needed lots of patience for some moments of desperation. But I always say life would be boring if everything goes smoothly and perfectly all the time. We need challenges to make our lives interesting, no? Well, I lived in this beautiful country for almost 4 years and could have easily stayed longer. One thing is for sure: I'll be back.
I first set foot on Kenyan grounds in 2011 when I came for a volunteering project for one month. I had no idea this trip would turn my world upside down. My senses awakened and suddenly things became clear quite naturally and easily - I didn't have to struggle with myself about what to do next. I knew: I want to move to Kenya. I wouldn't do it that quickly though, I'm a person who plans things through. I gave myself another year to financially save as much as I could and prepare myself for my life in Kenya. The first reason why I wanted to come back to Kenya after my first visit was the children - my children whom I taught during my volunteering time back in 2011. I was so attached to them and they got me with my full heart! My second reason was a slowly growing love for Mark, whom I met and worked with during volunteering, and this made me connect with Kenya even more. Today I have a Kenyan husband, a big Kenyan family, and some really good Kenyan friends!
For me, the possibilities seem endless here. I'm looking forward to what this country still has to offer me in the future!
My Project
Milele Elimu Centre, Mombasa
My volunteering experience in 2011 in a slum school in Mombasa inspired me a lot. I always felt very welcoming and comfortable being surrounded by those kids and their community. In fact, these are the most loving and friendly people to meet! They branded my heart - kids always did in Kenya for me! So it might have come naturally that my husband Mark and me opened our own school in the slums of Mombasa. We started our project in 2013 - today we educate more than 300 children from Kindergarten to Primary and up to Secondary or even University level from needy families of the Shauri Yako slum in Mombasa!
We aim to improve the lives of our children, their families and of course also the lives of our staff, in fact, it includes the whole community!

MY
PAGE
My passion!
Made with love
Kenya Through My Eyes - Countless hours of work is what I put into this special project of mine. In the end, all the time was worth it and I am proud to have achieved my goal. This is very personal for me but I love the thought of sharing it with people who might feel the same and share the same experiences. The first rule that I set for myself from the beginning was that all pictures you find on this page will be my own (except the ones of the Kenyan artisans under "The Craft Lover"), I didn't want to use pictures from others. Some were taken a long time ago with old school cameras - and back then I didn't have any thought of putting up a page about Kenya one day - but the majority of pictures were shot in recent years, where I invested in my first half professional Olympus Pen camera and then afterward started discovering more places of this country called Kenya. Since then I try to constantly improve my photographic skills and I'm happy to show you some beautiful pictures of my impressions abroad across Kenya and Africa. I hope my pictures will leave a positive impression and inspire you to see more! I wish to travel more through this continent in the future and I will gradually add my new experiences to this page.
I hope you enjoy the journey through my page and if so, I'm happy to hear your thoughts, comments, or any questions you may have in the box below.
Thank you! ~ Ahsanteni sana!
